This chapter focuses on target audiences in the beginning then moves to marketing strategy in the second half. To be completely honest, this shift in the chapter lost me a bit. While there was a bit of a transfer in the text, I feel a supportive strategy would be to devote a chapter each to these topics. With marketing strategy being the first chapter discussed.
In earlier chapters, discussing the fundamentals and through our reading of Ascend Your Start-Up, knowing exactly what you are trying to sell is extremely important. It takes that knowledge to help develop your strategy and those together will help determine your audience. My main concern is missing out on other audiences if you focus on one or two.
Finally, the information about women felt a little sexist to me. Especially on the myths (obviously, they are myths), which makes me wonder if this was something the author was called on at one point. I also thing that, in today's environment, it is always best to keep a broad audience for marketing purchases.
I am including a clip from an incredible (albeit dated) movie from 1983 starring Michael Keaton and Teri Garr. Enjoy!
