This little piggy stayed home...
One thing to know about me, I love TV. Give me all of it; streaming, network, cable... And with that love comes an affinity for what it offers. Chapter 3 in Ascend Your Start-Up reminded me of the series on Apple TV regarding the creator of WeWork. While I am sure some of it was done for dramatic affect, I believe it shows how important it is to have the right people around you. The main point is the company grew too fast without the funds to cover it, and the leader would never take no for an answer.
The show was a great example of how not to organize a start-up. Out of the four viable leaders Yu discusses, WeWork only had a Thought Leader. While this thought leader was the main problem, as in not listening to those who were telling him the warning signs, there was no clear Challenger, Collaborator, or Operator. Those leaders bring valuable input into an organization. The will also consider obstacles to their success and be able to effectively discuss them with everyone.
Having the right people around you helps you to ascend in grow, not only in business but in life.
