Surfing the Tsunami: Week 3, Chapter 3

The three perspectives in AI reminded me of a conversation that took place a couple of summers ago. My son, now 22, was discussing automatic cars and all the benefits. He was the optimist. My husband, citing safety concerns was adamant that automatic cars would never work. As they were looking for a tie-breaker (me), I said it is inevitable and we can either learn to live with it or fight it.

Of course I see one of the roles as a realist, is to understand that while AI is inevitable, it also takes time. While I am not a programmer, being able to create AI to work in an environment without people to ensure that it is safe will take time (ex: automatic cars).

I agree that it is important to learn, understand and accept AI. With all new technology there will be a learning curve. I also feel it is important to adjust educational curriculums to incorporate general computer education to include programming, so that more people will be able to work in thee environments as new careers will spring up with new technology.
